Our Purpose
Australia already has all the technical solutions to reduce emissions. What we need now is leadership - in our communities, at all levels of Government, and amongst elected representatives of all political beliefs. Environmental Leadership Australia exists to accelerate and support that leadership and increase climate knowledge.
Environmental Leadership Australia’s goal is to increase the number and influence of community and political leaders who are champions for stronger climate policy. We specialise in constructive engagement with leaders from conservative backgrounds who have traditionally been underserved by Australian climate and environment groups.
As part of the global effort, Australia needs to make deep emission reductions this decade to protect our way of life and the environment now and for generations to come. Environmental Leadership Australia is committed to working with policy makers, industry groups and local communities, especially those who have traditionally been neglected or overlooked by climate groups, to lay the groundwork for bipartisan support.
Our Principles
To achieve our long-term climate and environmental goals, Australia must drive down emissions this decade. Policies to do so should be based on the following guiding principles.
Plans and actions should be evidence-based and economically robust.
All sectors of the economy should be working to reduce emissions and produce positive environmental outcomes.
The economic and job opportunities from decarbonisation should be shared across all communities.
Electricity, as the sector with the biggest source of emissions, should be a key focus, with policies designed to accelerate the takeup of renewables and storage.
Locally and internationally we already have the technologies and know-how to reduce our emissions. Australia is already benefiting from the economic opportunities of decarbonisation. Thousands of direct jobs and many more across the clean energy supply chain have been created as investment in clean, renewable energy, storage and other climate solutions grow.
